How to Apply

The F-1 nonimmigrant visa categories are for noncitizens seeking to study in the United States. The nonimmigrant academic student (F-1) classification allows a noncitizen to enter the United States as a full-time student at a U.S. college, university, seminary, conservatory, academic high school, private elementary school, other academic institution, or in a language training program.

 

To be eligible for the F-1 

Applicant Eligibility

​

To be eligible for F-1, noncitizens must meet the following requirements:

  • Be bona fide students qualified to pursue a full course of study;

​​

  • Seek to enter the United States temporarily and solely for the purpose of pursuing such a course of study at an institution the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has certified to admit nonimmigrant students;

​​

  • Have a foreign residence, which they have no intention of abandoning;

​​

  • Have a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status (Form I-20) issued in their name by a Designated School Official (DSO) of a school that SEVP has certified to admit nonimmigrant students;

​

  • Have sufficient funds available for self-support during the entire proposed course of study and

​​

  • Provide proof that the noncitizen has paid the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee on Payment of Fee Remittance for Certain F, J, and M Nonimmigrants (Form I-901), if applicable.

                                             OPT

         Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 Students

​

ALERT: On Aug. 27, 2024, USCIS updated its policy guidance regarding when students may be eligible for optional practical training (OPT) for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The update also clarifies guidance concerning online study, school transfers, the grace period, and study abroad.

 

Optional practical training (OPT) is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion). However, all periods of pre-completion OPT will be deducted from the available period of post-completion OPT.

FIRST STAGE OF APPLICATION PROCESS:

                                                                                      ELIGIBILITY SCREENING 

​

To initiate the ELIGIBILITY SCREENING process, please provide the following  REQUIRED documents to jasteachusallc@gmail.com

 

(1) A resume including a photo and complete dates of graduation and employment history

 

(2) Transcript of Records

​

(3) Current passport (biodata page) valid for at least one year

​

(4) College Diploma

​

(5) Acceptance letter from University

To ensure a smooth application process, please submit the first five initial documents as PDF file attachments. Consolidate your multiple college diplomas into one PDF file and your transcript of records into another. The following documents cannot be accepted:

1. A passport with less than a year's validity

2. Acceptance letter from the University

3. Provide proof of sufficient funds available for self-support during the entire proposed course of study

     WELCOME/PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

Once you have passed the initial screening process, you will be invited to attend our program introduction. During this orientation, you will be given more information on the next stage of your application process.
